#9 Alexander Street:

#9 Alexander Street had been said to be a portion of a building moved from Harley c1885, by the Gidney brothers which is now the "Scoops" building at #122 King Street, however there was also another story told that this building was a portion of the present Betty’s Place B&B / Johnston Residence (#115 King Street) which had been moved from Mt. Vernon in the early 1890’s. After further research I have discovered that it was the Wooden family / Wooden Building Moving Company who had moved a former hotel building from Mt. Vernon and, like the Gidney's, divided it into two after it reached Burford. The fact that #9 is recorded as being moved there and renovated by the Wooden family reinforces the second story.

As I had mentioned elsewhere, the main portion of the building moved from Mt. Vernon is now the Johnston building (#115 King Street), which had been the site of a bakery operated by William Clement, which burned sometime between 1888 and 1890. The fire had originated in a Tailor Shop located where the CIBC building is now, and spread to the buildings on either side of it. The building at #115 King Street was renovated and converted into a new bakery and the other half of it, displaced during the c1894 move, was taken to what was just a field owned by the Wooden/Robertson families, and it remained on blocks until Alexander Street was completed through that former field.
