#411 Maple Avenue South:

It has always been said that this house is the oldest house on Maple Avenue. It may have been originally built as a single family dwelling for the Nall family, completed around c1834. Reverend James Nall set up and established the first congregation of the Burford Congregational Church. Nall's first house is said to have been a log cabin which would have been located basically in the middle of what is now the Maple Avenue right-of-way and at the time the street was finally constructed, Nall's cabin had to be moved off to the side. It had been told that the cabin ended up on the site of what is #407 Maple Ave.     Between 1834 and 1839 the upper storey centre room of #411  (which was said to be a larger more open-concept room) doubled as the meeting place where the Congregational  services were held, prior to the Burford Congregational Church building being completed, in the Cemetery property, across the street from this, in 1839.

#404 Maple Avenue South - Congregational Cemetery:

In 1834 the Reverend James Nall came to Burford as a missionary of the Congregational Missionary Society of England It was through his efforts that the first church in Burford Township (the Burford Congregational Church) was built at the north-west corner of this burial ground At one time it was a multi-denominational church which housed the congregations of the Anglicans, Methodists, Baptists and the Congregationalists. In May of 1927 the church building was demolished and all the church groups went their separate ways. The earliest burials in the cemetery date back to 1834 and among the tombstones can be found the names of some of Burford's most prominent historical, figures: Henry Lester, Jacob Yeigh, Robert Whale A.R.C.A., and Archibald Harley. "They conquered the      difficulties incident to a pioneer life!"

#421 Maple Avenue South - Burford Masonic Lodge No. 106:

#421 Maple Avenue South: Masonic Lodge No. 106 Burford, ON
On June 25, 1858, a number of Masons met at Bishopsgate (on Highway No. 53 between Brantford and Burford), to consider applying to the Most Worshipful Grand Master for a warrant to establish a Masonic lodge in the Township of Burford. By 1861 Burford Lodge No. 106 members were meeting in a house on Maple Ave south.
In 1883 Burford Lodge No. 106, built a new lodge hall which they immediately occupied when it was completed - this building is the present Burford Lodge Hall. On the second floor is the meeting hall and on the first floor was where court sessions were held. Sometime about eighty years ago or so, the original fancy façade was crumbling and for safety reasons was removed and                                                             replaced with this plain red-bricked vaneer façade.
